Conversations

Chat is organized into conversations — persistent threads you can revisit, search, and share. Each conversation keeps a full history of everything you and the AI have exchanged. Starting a conversation:
1

Open a new chat

Click New Chat in the sidebar. Your conversations are listed below; click any to reopen it.
2

Choose a model

Select a model from the dropdown at the top of the chat input before sending your first message. You can switch models mid-conversation at any time.
3

Send your message

Type your message and press Enter or click Send. Responses stream in as they are generated.

Message actions

Every message in a conversation has a small action menu. From there you can:
  • Edit your message — creates a new branch so the original version is preserved
  • Regenerate the assistant’s response — produces a sibling branch you can switch between
  • Give feedback — thumbs up or down on any assistant response to signal quality
When you edit or regenerate, the conversation branches. You can navigate between branches using the arrows that appear on the branched message, so no history is ever lost.

Multi-model comparison

Send the same prompt to multiple models at once and see their responses side by side. This is useful for picking the best model for a task or auditing quality differences.
1

Enable comparison mode

Click the compare icon next to the model selector. Select up to 8 models to include in the fan-out.
2

Send your prompt

Type your message and send. ManyLayers sends the same prompt to all selected models simultaneously.
3

Pick the best response

Each model’s response appears in its own panel. Click Use this response on the one you prefer — it becomes the active branch and the conversation continues from there.

Organizing conversations

Keep your conversation list manageable with tags, pinning, and archive. Tags — label conversations for easy filtering. Click the tag icon on any conversation in the sidebar to add or remove tags. Pin — keep important conversations at the top of the list. Right-click a conversation and choose Pin. Archive — hide completed threads without deleting them. Right-click a conversation and choose Archive. Find archived conversations by typing archived:true in the search bar. Use the search bar at the top of the sidebar to find conversations by content. Prefix operators help narrow results:
  • tag:foo — conversations tagged “foo”
  • archived:true — show archived conversations
  • pinned:true — pinned conversations only

Context compaction

When a conversation grows very long, ManyLayers automatically summarizes older turns to keep the active context within the model’s limits. This happens transparently — your stored message history is never modified, and the conversation continues without interruption.

Attaching files

Attach files to any conversation to give the model additional context. Click the paperclip icon in the chat input, select your file, and it will be included with your next message. You can attach multiple files and remove them individually before sending.

Exporting and sharing

Export — download your conversations as JSON. Open the conversation menu (the three-dot icon) and choose Export. You can also export all your conversations at once from your profile settings. Share — generate a public read-only link to any conversation. Open the conversation menu and click Share. Anyone with the link can view the conversation without signing in. Revoke the link at any time from the same menu.

API playground

The workspace includes a built-in API playground accessible from the sidebar under Tools → Playground. Use it to construct and send gateway requests directly from your browser using your own credentials — useful for exploring the API before writing application code.
